Incorporated in March 2000, Pennies to Protect Police Dogs is a non-profit charity started by 10 year old Stacey Hillman. Stacey has a very caring heart and a mission. After reading an article stating that some police dogs get shot in the line of duty, she responded by putting bottles in businesses to collect money for the cause. She was extremly happy when she collected the first $1400, which suited the two police dogs in her own home town of Casselberry, Florida with the vests. After spreading the word at fairs, schools and by writing letters to the governer, she has raised over $23,000 in the past six months. It is so refreshing to know that people care about animals.
She intends to buy all police dogs bulletproof and stab resistant vests. Each vest costs $700 and she feels that every police dog deserves one. The dogs are the first ones to risk their lives in a lot of police situations. They deserve the same protection that is given to the officers.
